Gardening? Working with children? The Intergenerational Landed Learning program at the Okanagan Science Centre is seeking volunteers to be "garden friends" during the 2012-13 school year. You will work in teams of two adults and two school children to learn about growing food crops, harvesting, the science of gardening, and good nutrition under the direction of Okanagan Science Centre staff. You will need to commit seven Wednesday mornings during April, May, and June and two or three mornings in September and November. Want a first-hand look at what being a "garden friend" is all about? Would you be interested in volunteering as a "Farm Friend" in an exciting intergenerational project in Vernon? "Farm Friends" will work with grade 4 and 5 students from St. James School to plan, plant, care for, and harvest food plants in the Okanagan Science Centre's garden. This means committing approximately 4 hours per month this Spring to work on this exciting project.
